Every year parents and staff of Dunster First School meet in the school hall to set up for toy fair.  This includes such things as raffles, 'name the bear', selling books and toys and a vast amount of prizes to be won.

Not only did Somerset Gas donate a hamper for one of the main raffles prizes but one of the company Director's volunteered himself for Dunster Schools very own Santa Claus.

The night was a very big success for Dunster First School andt they raised over £2300 for PTA funds.

24th March 2009 - Eaga Warm Front Scheme

On Monday 5th December 2005, the Chancellor made a pre-budget announcement regarding the Government’s intention to offer a £300 grant to pensioners who privately own or privately rent their homes for the installation of a new central heating system. The grant is available to all pensioners (over 60) not currently in receipt of benefits that would allow them access to Warm Front. The £300 can only be utilised where the qualifying customers do not have an operable heating system or there is no system present and where the total gross cost is a minimum of £300.

On Tuesday 24th March 2009, Somerset Gas successfully registered to the 2005 Eaga Warm Front Scheme. This allows us to accept claim forms or vouchers from our customers to benefit from this scheme.

We are working very hard to ensure that our customers get the best offers and discounts that they are entitled to and now that this facility is in place we hope to benefit all our customers that are eligible for this grant.

Managing Director, Mark Lewis said, "I am very pleased that we are now able to use the facilities we have installed to benefit our customers in this area. In the current climate we realise that our customer's need that extra bit of help and we know that this will be very useful to a large group of our consumers."

Somerset Gas will continue its research into providing help where we can when it comes to having the structure in place to enable our customers to use such benefits.

For information about how to apply to this scheme, please contact our team on 01823 661144 and we will be more than happy to help you.

04th March 2009 - Dunster First School Uniforms

As part of the Foundation Stage curriculum the children in the Reception Class at Dunster First School spend part of their week exploring the great outdoors with Forest School activities, games on the school field and walks on Grabbist Hill.

The children and staff are well known for their bravery in going out in all weathers, although in part this is due to the wet weather jackets and trousers that all of the children have to wear.

Unfortunately at the start of the year the teaching staff realised that the wet weather gear was no longer water proof and needed to be replaced.

Fortunately for the school the Somerset Gas Company kindly offered to sponsor a new set of wet weather clothing for the whole class.  The new outfits are in a bright Dunster red with Dunster First School and Somerset Gas logos emblazoned on them.

The official handover of the new wet weather gear took place on Wednesday March 4th when Somerset Gas Company Manager, Joe Lewis joined the Reception Class children and staff on a walk to the Giant's Chair on the top of Grabbist Hill. Needless to say it rained (and snowed) and the new wet weather gear ensured that everyone stayed dry!

Somerset Gas Company Manager, Joe Lewis said, "We were delighted to be able to support Dunster First School by providing the children with the wet weather gear.  The community is extremely important to us and we like to be able to give back as much as we can."

Dunster First School Headteacher said, "We are very grateful to Joe and everyone at Somerset Gas for their generous support for our school.  The outfits look brilliant and will enable the children to continue with their outdoor education whatever the weather."
